Polyoxovanadates with emerging biomedical activities

Polyoxovanadates (POVs) are a subclass of larger family polyanionic group V and VI metal-oxo clusters that known as polyoxometalates (POMs). POMs have been found to antidiabetic, antibacterial, antiprotozoal, antiviral anticancer activities, which sparked interest in their use bioinorganic drugs. Among POVs, decavanadate ([V10O28]6−; V10) is an isopolyoxovanadate recently described several medicinal applications. In the present review, recent insights into POVs with emergent anticancer, antimicrobial applications described. Additionally, POVs’ stability speciation under experimental biological conditions well (in particular, vivo ex-vivo effects highlighted. Finally, we report most important 21st century studies and/or targets against cancer, bacteria viruses including: apoptosis, cell cycle arrest, interference ions transport system, inhibition mRNA synthesis, morphology changes, changes metabolic pathways, phosphorylase enzyme signaling, formation reactive oxygen species, lipid peroxidation, viral polymerase, virus binding host cell, penetration interaction protein cages.
